Hair oil is not a ‘new trend’ for me. I’ve been using it for years- my hair has been to hell and back over the 10 years I have been dying it for. It has been blonde (more yellow..), pink, black, blue black, brown, ginger (many times, and not wanting it to be), red, light brown, “caramel” aka ginger… and most of all DRY and unhealthy.
I am used to using L’Oreal Elvive serum so was excited to try something else. I’ve used the Moroccan Oil and most recently tried the ArganOil from Farmers (not cheap but cheaper than Moroccan Oil). Like I say- it is NOT a new thing for me!
In a hair oil, I look for:
Light and non-greasy
Shiny, sparkly, silky results
Smells good
Doesn’t linger on your hands/cause driving accidents because your hands slip off the wheel..

This product ticks the boxes for good results, light and non-greasy… But to be fair; it smells like soap and I couldn’t get the smell off my hands (I put this on damp/dry hair before running out the door and quickly wiped my hands but didn’t wash them). I kept smelling it in my hair and it made me feel a bit woozy after a while, like I was in someone’s grandparents bathroom. Also as I put it on my hands before I went for a drive- I will say that my hands struggled to grip my steering wheel… And when I got back into the car later and used the wheel, my hands smelt like it again.
I use shampoo/conditioner that smells like fruit/doesn’t smell like Dove’s products, so I’d prefer to have a non-soapy/fragrance free hair oil. If you use other Dove hair products then I’m sure it’s a perfect match for you- just not for me.
Like I said- it ticks the boxes for everything bar the lingering smell. I don’t want my hair clashing with my perfume and it’s all just a bit too much.
It’s a great price (RRP $8.17) and really effective, so I’m not completely dissatisfied and am very grateful I got to try it.
I’d say on the scale of ‘will I be using it again?’, from 1(being NO, GO AWAY) to 10(LIVE WITH ME FOREVER, DON’T LEAVE, LET’S GET MARRIED)… It’d be about a 4 (good friends but nothing more, ever).
But, to shake things up a bit, on a scale of 1-5- comparing it to other oils I have used- I’ll give this little lovely a 3.
It’s a pity you can’t try before you buy but if you have a wee sneaky sniff of their shampoo from the same range- then it might give you an indicator of smell. Maybe I’m just picky (my friends will agree).
